Like many little girls, Liz loved to play dress-up, sometimes wearing cheap costumes from the dime store, sporting her mother’s makeup and putting on airs. Her mother would look sternly at her, stating, “Who do you think you are, the Queen of Sheba?”
Of course, like most little girls, Liz had no idea who the Queen of Sheba was!
But Liz grew up and eventually became a Christian. The more she learned about the Bible, the more interested she became and wanted to share what she learned. So Liz became an author of many books, several on Bible characters, and she’s a much sought-after speaker who still loves life and has a wonderful imagination.
Liz has recently published her latest book on a person who became of great interest to her – the Queen of Sheba. Our book club has just started digging into Liz Curtis Higgs’ book, “It’s Good to be Queen.” And although there are only about ten verses in the Bible about her, Liz has written an incredible treasure trove of facts mixed with a sanctified imagination. (Can you imagine what it would be like to ride a camel for two months across the Arabian Desert?) Not only has she learned about the Queen of Sheba, but she has also learned much from her, which she has shared with her readers and those who listen to her teaching.
Something you might think about for your journal:
- Did you have a favourite Bible character growing up? If so, who was it, and what have you learned about this person and from this person that you could share with your family?
- Do you have favourite Bible characters now, and what can you share about them with your family?
