About

Our Mom

Our mother was a storyteller. Growing up, we heard lots of stories ― adventures from her childhood and family, tales that taught lessons, fun-filled yarns as well as faith-filled accounts. She often even told children’s stories during a morning church service ― always with illustrations she had either made or gathered from somewhere. She told them to anyone who would listen.

Although she had been asked many times to write some of the stories down, she never seemed to have the time except for a few scribbled memories jotted down on scraps of paper. Later, we asked her to tape more stories so we could have a record of them, but she never had time. Finally, we decided to take matters into our own hands and were prepared to record some of her stories on her 95th birthday.

But, as we were en route, we received the call ― Mom was gone ― we never saw her again. We had left it too late. Her stories passed away with her.

For several months I, Lillian, had heard of faithbooking, but something my daughter said at her grandmother’s memorial service made me realize if I didn’t make the time to record what I remember of the stories, and also record my own stories, then they would be lost to the family forever. Thus began my journey into this new world.

We pray that the stories recorded here will inspire you to record your own experiences so that the generations to come might know of your “God moments” and use them as faith-builders.

The Authors

Lillian

Growing up on the Prairies meant changing seasons and lots of fun times with family – puzzles, board games, and jam sessions around the piano. One of my earlier memories was an older sister and I always getting into trouble for reading by flashlight under the covers when we were supposed to be asleep.

Apart from working as a secretary, I have enjoyed a wide variety of hobbies and crafts, which I still pursue. Several years ago, a friend introduced me to scrapbooking, and from that, I’ve branched into faithbooking as a way to document family stories and experiences.

I’ve had the privilege of living in many different parts of Canada and visiting several other countries worldwide.

I have two married children, seven beautiful grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

From Sunday School, children’s choir, youth group, Girl Guides, music lessons and other activities, my life growing up on the Prairies was full.

While raising my family, I served in various positions in several churches across Western Canada. This was followed by a few years in public relations, two years in a Christian bookstore, and then community services. For several years I was employed in the field of communications for a Christian denomination, from which I retired a few years ago.

All my life, I have enjoyed reading, writing and photography. Other hobbies include learning about my family’s history and helping others share their stories.

I have two daughters and their families who live nearby.
