Today, many extended family members and friends joined the congregation at church to witness the dedication ceremony for my youngest granddaughter, Lily. It was a beautiful service with her two older sisters singing a duet and an object lesson from a lily plant. My daughter and her husband promised to raise Lily for the Lord, protect her and keep her from harm, while the congregation pledged to pray for the family.

What’s in a name?

It was a day I’ll never forget.

I had finally grown tall enough to answer the phone without a step stool. We had a fancy, black, rotary-style phone that hung on the wall. It was not a “party” line (where several families shared the same telephone line) like so many of our friends had. We had a “private” line as Dad’s job was dependent on a phone call-out. New Year’s Resolutions

I recently discovered a free app to list all my books, music, movies, recipes, and anything else I might want to catalogue. So, the other night, I completed listing all the 120 books I have in one of my bookcases. This included 18 books on various Bible characters, 11 Bible studies, 5 biographies, 15 on Christ’s life and teaching, 29 on spiritual growth, 6 on prayer, etc. Continue reading

O Christmas Tree

It was a beautiful, sunny but crisp, winter morning—one week before Christmas—the perfect time for the family to climb into the new van for an excursion into the countryside to find the perfect Christmas tree. Before long they had found their tree, cut it down, had their snowball fight, followed by hot chocolate, and were headed back to town with their treasure tied to the van roof.
