1. Why did you write this book?
I knew Christians who had been divorced, but it was rarely discussed. As a pastor, I didn’t fully understand the trauma of divorce until I attended a Christian divorce care workshop. This experience, along with the support from divorced colleagues, inspired me to write this book. I wanted to share my journey and help others feel understood and supported during their emotional rollercoaster.
2. Your divorce was over 20 years ago; why now?
The idea to write was always there, but life got in the way. After retiring and seeing others experience divorce, I felt God urging me to write. The COVID pandemic gave me the time to finally do it. I overcame doubts, knowing that even if it helps just one person, it’s worth it.
3. How did you come up with the title, Rebuild, Restore, Renew?
After receiving divorce papers, a prayer from my employer led me to recall Nehemiah’s story of rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls. I planned to use “rebuild, renew, restore” as themes, which were confirmed by Isaiah 61:4 in the VOICE translation. This became the foundation of my book.
